Crab Grass

Crab Grass is obviously becoming a challenge for homeowners. This grass is peristent and is more than able to take over a lawn. What works in other parts of the country doesn’t work in the Eugene, because in our climate the crab grass never goes into its dormant state. This leaves us with only a few options. The first method is to cut the crab grass and underlying root structures out of the lawn, put down new dirt, and then re-seed the area or replace it with sod. A second option is to use a herbicide that is safe for most grasses, but kills crab grass. This may take several applications over several weeks to be effective. After killing the crab grass, you can remove it and re-seed the area. A last option is to use a broad spectrum herbicide to kill the crab grass. The downside of this option is that it may also kill the surrounding grass leaving a larger area you’ll have to re-seed.
